It is the English version, faithful to the original Spanish publication, of the memoirs of Josep Conangla i Fontanilles (Montblanc, Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain 1875- Havana, Cuba, 1965), written in the 1960s, on his experience as a soldier of the Spanish Army in the Cuban independence war (1895-98).
